Renaissance Man Fashion

The following is an article on entrepreneur, mentor, designer and renaissance man Alex Ellis. He is the owner and founder of Simply Ellis LLC (read below for more details). He has a national tour called “Tied to Greatness” (First date is February 1 in Harlem) that will use his book “Restoring the Male Image: A Look From the Inside Out” as the platform for his one day events that help young men learn how to tie a tie and in turn learn about how to revitalize their self images. Ellis is an inspiring force and I look up to what this man is doing at the forefront of mentorship, corporate fashion, and entrepreneurship.

Designer, Simply Ellis
With custom pieces that are reminiscent of the 1930s era, Alex Ellis’ clothing line, Simply Ellis is definitely bringing back classic style. A motivational speaker, mentor, author and designer extraordinaire, he’s the definition of a Renaissance man. But Ellis’ life was not a bed of roses. He had his share of insecurities as a teenager. “When I was in high school I was very tall and painfully skinny, and it really gave me a complex. I really suffered from low self-esteem,” he divulges.

Back then, Ellis used clothing as a way to mask his low self-esteem. Fortunately, life and experience taught Ellis to develop an authentic self-image, and he shares this message in his book, Restoring the Male Image: A Look From the Inside Out. In it, Ellis reveals the secret to a timeless fashionable look. “Once I began to know and find out who I was and love that person, [it didn’t matter] whether I was tall or short, fat or skinny. Once I began to love me, then I began to wear the clothes instead of letting the clothes wear me. And that is the heart, that’s the thrust of the book,” he says.

Simply Ellis imports the finest fabrics from around the world including Italy and England. Ellis gives in-home consultation to clients who may not have the free time to shop and buy clothing directly from the stores. Simply Ellis offers fashion forward suits, shirts, neckwear and handmade cufflinks. These days you can find Ellis transforming the lives of young men in the community with his mentoring program “Boys to Men,” or jet-setting across the country promoting his book.
