Kanye West recently told a source that he has signed on to collaborate on a line of men’s footwear for the LVMH (Moet Hennessy – Louis Vuitton ) owned luxury brand. LVMH is an international group with over 50 luxury brands including Fendi, Belvedere, and the brand in question Louis Vuitton.
Kanye also stated that he’s been working on a non-Louis-related signature line of womenswear that’s set to debut this fall.
Another recent cross-promotion involving Mr. West and LV was during Takashi Murakami’s exhibit opening in New York. Natalie Finn of E! Online notes:
He (Kanye West) performed June 7 at a gala ball at the Brooklyn Museum to tout the opening of contemporary artist Takashi Murakami’s latest show, which incorporates a line of specially designed Louis Vuitton bags for the especially well-heeled art appreciator.
The hi-fashion consumption trend amongst rappers and the urban audience will be reaching all time highs in the coming months and years. Unlike past decades, hi-end fashion houses are asking artists (and icons) such as Kanye West to collaborate and design lines of clothing and footwear. Just think about British designer Ozwald Boateng and venerable French design house teaming up in 2003. Note: Givenchy is owned by LVMH
