Have you seen the latest iPhone Killer?
These devices are making a name for themselves because they are supposed to be the Apple iPhone’s kryptonite. Technically some of the iPhone killers may be better, but for now they lack the coolness factor that keeps iPhone with dominate market share of the touch screen category. I expect for more iPhone killers to make a splash, but as long as “Apple Fan Boys” act as evangelists for the brand, I do not expect the iPhone to give up its championship belt.
However, the Google Android has hands down the best opportunity to knock the iPhone off of it’s throne, with a multitude of Google based apps a brand such as HTC could benefit substantially.
Possible Client(s):HTC
Possible Plan:
Since High Tech Computer Corporation HTC hit the market place I always sensed they could benefit from a properly constructed viral campaign (Read about the HTC ‘Touch’ viral campaign). Fhlame Digital, a viral marketing agency in London constructed the touch campaign but had a tough time trying to compete head to head with the iPhone, especially when the iPhone had not been released and expectations were so high.
The upcoming release of the HTC Touch Diamond will give the HTC brand another chance to make right with the “viral community.” One of the keys to a viral campaign in the age of Youtube is to have brand evangelists become content creators, a simple and clean viral ad will be easy to imitate but hard to duplicate IE. Kobe Hyperdunks. The spin I would put on the HTC viral campaign would be to imitate the Mac vs PC campaign. The iPhone is a great device but it lacks simple functions such as cut and paste, so the major obstacle is getting innvovators and early adopters to see how “cool” the HTC Touch Diamond really is.
Possible Tagline: “Can’t Touch This”
