BNE Was Here

December 3rd, 2009 § 3 comments

I have been trying to solve the mystery of the BNE stickers in NYC for the past few months. There is not a place in my city that anyone with taste or creativity can go without spotting the infamous stickers. For those not familiar, here are a couple of pics:

Wikipedia refers to the stickers as, “The graffiti artist or group of artists commonly known as BNE, who post(s) black and white stickers in cities around the world bearing only the eponymous acronym”. This definition was not enough to stop my journey, especially since one of my own personal favorite social experiments involved black and white stickers. Then I received an email from an advertising colleague and BOOM…

BNE 12.10.09 from ANIMALnewyork.com on Vimeo.

Thus it looks like on 12.10.09 all my questions will be answered. If you will be in the NYC area around the 10th you should RSVP here. Mother (a creative agency) and Animalnewyork (a daily cultural digest) will be presenting the artist (s) controversial work. Stay tuned for photos and video from the event.

It reminds me of when they were promoting the movie Pi, and the whole city as covered in stenciled Pi symbols.
It was a mystery just like this for a while.

I am glad that movie had a good soundtrack, it’s where I first learned about Clint Mansell and Aphex Twins.

This stickers have been driving me wild! Considering that the stickers are mostly found downtown (NY), I find it kind of odd that the opening would be uptown. Thanks for sharing this!

I want to check out Pi. I wish they had the release downtown too. I guess Mother should have looked to Soho or Tribeca for their lease. Either way, I heard that the opening was great!
