Allegory and Jay-Z

January 1st, 2010 § 1 comment

First and foremost. Props to Jay-Z and his TEAM for bringing allegory back to music, especially Hip-Hop. Now let’s go in. Remember this sign? I’m not touching it in this post. I just want to get your ‘wheels turning’.

Now take a look at this

Look closely at the latter image. A trigram, in this case, one with 3 horizontal lines are what the Chinese and the I Ching refer to as changing Yang. This is related to the principle of Yin and Yang. Dualities. Opposites. Blah Blah Blah. Hopefully you are still paying attention. Remember this is all for free. This particular trigram translates to Ch’ien/Heaven/Father, which can fall into a cyclic (King Wen) or polar (Fu Hsi) context. In the Fu Hsi context the trigram symbol also means creative. Even more interesting is that due to the BP3 symbol being 3 red lines that represent old yang changing into new yin the new yin would be . This transformed figure represents K’un/Earth/Mother. In the Fu Hsi context this is the opposite of Ch’ien. Therefore looking at the Blueprint 3 symbol from a lens of I Ching, we have Jay transforming from the father/creative to the mother/receptive principle. A possible indication of his new and transformed position amongst musicians–especially those of the rap genre. Thus whether Jay-Z and his creative team realized it or not they tapped into a 3-5,000 year old tradition that started in the East.

Now as a disclaimer. I am not a historian. I am just a curious strategist that attempts to keep aware of what goes on outside of myself. Thus, I’m curious to know what you think.

Allegory is merely extended metaphor. While Jay-Z has woven words into complex similes and metaphors since the early ’90s, I find it even more intriguing is the visuals that he has signed off on and cosigned since the early 2000s. Now that is truly a #bakedin product. However I don’t want to publicly explore this topic further if this all just merely a coincidence. Somebody. Anybody. Shed some light, please!
