Response to Jordan Trial Exhibit A from Rob Lewis on Vimeo.

Rob Lewis is a law student and confessed sneakerhead. His knack for grasping complex intellectual property issues with an uncanny ability to translate it to the layman gives him a unique lens as a witness in the ongoing trial.

My response:

I wish the general public could have access to what those numbers are. The Nike Annual Report is not very thorough in including Jordan Brand and their sales, revenue, ROI, etc. I agree that MJ embodied everything that was great about the professional game of basketball. Someone or some group and Jordan Brand have not been doing proper gardening in regards to the apparel and footwear. Retro everything is not cool, and it is not sustainable. I feel this is a myopic approach for Jordan Brand, which ultimately is in response to the influx of black and gray market goods. It’s hard to bootleg a mutant Airforce one sole with a classic Jordan upper. Disgusting yet unique. The Great White Hope will come one day. Maybe one of the Klitschko brothers deserve a nod? They are heavyweight champions for goodness sakes! The Jordan Brand ethos is about overcoming and excelling. They should take their own advice.

I agree with Rob in that the Jordan Brand is doing things because they can do it and get away with it. The retro fusion shoes look terrible! Although they look terrible and I would never make a purchase of one of them, I applaud their creativity in trying to do something different. I do believe the brand is still prominent and people, especially the urban community, are going to buy it because its Jordan.
The level of excellence is still there a little, but its not portrayed in those products being release i.e the fusion shoes. I took a look at the recent roster of the Jordan team and for the most part each team member excels in their respective sport with the exception of Quentin Richardson(i’ve always been confused as to why he’s on there, aside from his rookie season when has he beasted in the league?) and Jared Jeffries( I love the Knicks but whats he doing). I see there are a few subtractions Charles Woodson, TO, Donovan McNabb, and some decent additions Jason Taylor, Michael Crabtree, CC Sabathia, and Dre Bly. But the main faces of the team truly do excel (Carmello, CP3, Derek Jeter, Ray Allen) and for him to be able to keep them aboard is great.
As for the Race issue, I look at Derek Jeter although he is bi-racial and comes off as a black man you can’t ever forget that he’s the best of both worlds. I would like to raise a new point, Derek Jeter has definitely overachieved in baseball so he’s deserving to be on the roster. But do you think that Jordan may have been trying to reach a middle ground with putting a Bi-racial athlete like Jeter on the Roster? Just some food for thought.

What's this?
