A Great Contextually Relevant Advertisement By Zipcar
April 29th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink
Want to know why this advertisement is great?
Fundamentally it addresses the conundrum of finding a better alternative to taking the train–especially when delays and re-routing are major issues.
How could this advertisement been better?
Zipcar could have invested in targeting this cad based on the demographic/psychographic make up of this geographic location. The Bedford- Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn is not very gentrified, yet. As an inhabitant of this neighborhood I would felt a more emotional "tug" if the people in the ad were Black or Hispanic, or at the least mixed race or Hipster…oops I meant Zipster.
There you have it. A slight critique of the advertising that I see in my neighborhood. Until next time.

Shout Out To Greg At Converse For The Jack Purcell Love
April 19th, 2010 § 2 comments § permalink
Everyone who knows me is aware of my infatuation for the Jack Purcell. You can search my site for the history of Mr. Purcell and his shoe of the same name. I was recently blessed with these JP Red Hi’s in cinder/charcoal. They are designed by Hong Kong’s own, CLOT and are apart of the 1HUND(RED) series for Product (RED). #19.
Thanks again Greg.

#UNDERGROUNDPUZZLE
April 16th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink
Spotted at the Bedford-Nostrand G train stop (Brooklyn, NY). I’m engaged. I wonder what is next on my path of discovery. Will it be worth it? Who knows. Btw the cultural insight that was used for the creative is worth noting. An infamous street artist in NYC called "Posterboy" had been carving out images from subway posters and juxtaposing them on other advertiser’s posters. He spawned an army of copy cats and followers. He was even arrested. The Underground Puzzle poster is perfectly timed as Banksy’s movie, "Exit Through The Gift Shop" is in theaters.
I did some research before posting and the below is what I found.
Agency: Johannes Leonardo
Client: Undisclosed
Way to many people to credit…

Jack Purcell 75th Anniversary Event
April 9th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink
The Jane Hotel in Manhattan was host to the 75th anniversary party for Converse’s Jack Purcell shoe. The above image is an example from this year’s ad campaign. I believe Anomaly is responsible for the creative work. Heritage brand + open bar + cool crowd + Grizzly Bear/Vampire Weekend on the speakers = neo-Americana done right
Cheers to JP for another 75

Unaffordable Groceries: The Gentrification of Brooklyn

Lots to be said about the effects of gentrification. However, most people can not deny the "Whole Foods-esque" attempts.

Spotted at High Line park on 20th street. Art done by Valerie Hegarty.
The focus of Hegarty’s work is the collision of nature and culture, past and present.
Hegarty notes, "It appears as if nature has become the artist, altering the idealized image of the early American wilderness to be more layered representation of the are and times today."

Book Smarts, Street Credit – #StreetArt

Spotted on a Brooklyn Bridge trash can. Book smarts can not always teach you how to generate income. The streets of NYC are the ultimate litmus test.
