I’m proud of this dude. In his words:
As many of you know I have done almost 100 interviews with people like Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Justin Bieber, and many more. I’ve always had a passion for telling stories and highlighting some of the people that help influence culture today.
I’m so excited to announce Jabari Presents, my new documentary series that will take you into the lives and minds of people in entertainment, art, and sports. Our guests this season are amazing and I’ll reveal who they are in the coming weeks.
The series is sponsored by fashion/design company, NOOKA. It’s great to see a company that I have worn and respected for years embrace the future of branded content online.
When I asked NOOKA’s president, Matthew Waldman, his thoughts on Jabari Presents he said, “NOOKA promotes a philosophy of universal communication and the exploration of new forms in all fields. We are therefore proud to be a sponsor of Jabari Presents which explores new happenings in music and pop culture”.
What up Matt?

Nooka x One Club: The Future is Sexy?

*Gucci Mane voice* “Well damn!” I was hoping that it was bright. Either way, Matt of Nooka is always a great person to listen and learn from. A week or so ago I visited the One Club for the ‘Evening With The Client’ event and was impressed by the Nooka presentation in addition to their responses to student questions.
Matt actually provided answers to questions that I still had of the brand. By the way, futurism plays a HUGE role in Nooka; and that I love. This is a company that has marketing #bakedin to the product. Nooka is the type of client that the One Club/One Show needs moving forward. Forget Long’s Horseradish. But don’t ever forget Berghs School of Communication.

My Nooka Assets Organizer

My Nooka Assets Organizer, originally uploaded by KenjiSummers.
I picked up my Assets Organizer at the Nooka Pop Up Store located at the Den space on 11th street between 1st and 2nd ave. Andrew from 617in212.com came along to check out everything, too. I only took one –out of focus camera– pic of the space. But enjoy the pic of what you get when you purchase something from the temp. store. I also found out that because I was born under the Tiger –Chinese zodiac–I am a fire sign. Thus, reds; yellows; and oranges are perfect for attracting my abundance. Orange it is!

Nooka x SpongeBob
May 24th, 2009 § 1 comment § permalink
I didn’t see this one coming…
“As we continue to reinterpret the look and feel of SpongeBob for our vast audiences in its 10th Anniversary year, Nooka’s cutting-edge style combined with SpongeBob’s humor and optimism makes that transition an organic one,” said Hal Snik, SVP Domestic Licensing, NVCP.
More quotes from the press release:
Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) and fashion design brand Nooka have partnered to create a line of limited edition, high-end wristwatches inspired by popular cartoon character, SpongeBob SquarePants.
In honor of the pop-culture icon’s 10th anniversary celebration this year, Nooka has created two limited-edition timepieces featuring graphics and colors inspired by SpongeBob and ‘Bikini Bottom,’ with additional collaborations to be released throughout 2009 and 2010.
The unique designs of the pieces utilize two brand-new Nooka styles–the Zub Zenh (horizontal bars) 20mm in Yellow and the Zenv (vertical bars) Aluminum in Night. The concepts and graphics of both untraditional watches are reflective of the geometric themes and bold color pallets of SpongeBob SquarePants and Nooka’s design methods. The collection, available for both men and women, will be available at retailers in July.

The Nooka future glows

The Nooka future glows, originally uploaded by KenjiSummers.
Most watch companies know how to tell time but how many can set it? The Nooka ethos is steeped in futurism and challenging the status quo, in other words, leading as supposed to simply observing.
Recently I got to sit down with Matt (Nooka founder) and chat about the future of his futuristic watch company–it soon might not be known for watches if you know what I know. There is no interview that follows, but our conversation went from the poor state of many U.S. Design schools to the new Nooka products that are soon to be released.
I left the Nooka studio feeling revitalized in knowing that a cutting edge company out there truly cares about Gen Y and youth culture.
The future is indeed bright, but it is also glowing.
